“The Lord is my shepherd;
I have everything I need.” Psalm 23:1 NLT
David wrote these words, Lord, centuries ago. I am so grateful that they are still true here and now.
They are indeed still true, My child, for I am the God that does not change. You have, in Me, everything that you need. I am the supply that is always present and sufficient as you look to Me in humility and faith.
I let you rest. I am not a slave-driver or task-master. I do not give you endless lists of impossible works that you must accomplish in your own strength. What I ask of you is to follow in My steps depending on My life and strength.

I lead you. And where I lead there is peace. Whether the landscape is quiet and lovely, or storm-tossed and full of rocks, there is peace because My presence overcomes every circumstance.

I renew your strength. You tire quickly. You lose your patience. You run out of good intentions and good humor. But I renew. If you quiet your heart and take a few moments to come to Me and receive from Me, you find that My life wells up and renews you within.

I guide you. You seek to do right and choose the best path, but only I know the path that leads to righteousness and brings honor to My name. At times it may seem I am taking you the opposite direction from where you understand we are going, but I know that these paths are needed to grow your heart or to help another traveler on their way.

Even when… David said “I walk through the dark valley of death”, but you can fill in the blank. Even when…your health fails. Even when…your finances crumble. Even when…your friends walk away. Even when…the thing you fear the most looms on the horizon. You will not need to be afraid. I am close beside you. I never leave or forsake you even when you question whether I am there. I am fully equipped to protect you and to comfort you. I will not fail you.

I also go before you. I prepare in advance for you. Nothing catches Me off guard. I am already in the place I am taking you and preparing good things for you there. Your enemies can only stand and watch as I welcome you as My favored guest. I anoint you with joy and favor, and your life overflows with My blessings.
My goodness and unfailing love will chase you down every single day of your life. You cannot escape them. Will you recognize them, receive them, and be thankful for them? And after a life full of My presence, provision, and blessing you will live in My house with Me forever.
This is My heart toward you. When daily life and pressures make you forget that, take a moment. Breathe in My presence. And remember I am your Shepherd; you have everything you need.
